A night out with a difference in South Africa

At this treetop retreat, the safari continues long after the sun sets.

The ultimate sleep-out experience

Nothing connects you to nature like sleeping under a sky of star constellations in the wilderness of South Africa. In the Thabametsi Treehouse, you can elevate the experience even more with a stay in their luxury treehouse, and fall asleep to the sounds of lions roaring in the distance.

Thabametsi Treehouse

In the heart of Marakele National Park, a private concession in the Waterberg region, lies the Thabametsi Treehouse. After a day out in the wilderness in an open safari vehicle, meandering through mountainous landscapes and winding waterways, guests can head here and recount stories of their wildlife encounters over a glass of wine and gourmet tapas in the treehouse hideout.

The safari continues throughout the evening, as antelopes and elephants can be spotted in the distance, framed against a vivid orange sky that eventually darkens to reveal millions of stars. There's no constellation pre-reading required either – the treehouse comes with an iPad that has a stargazing app to help guests identify constellations and planets.

Introducing Marataba Mountain Lodge

A night in a treehouse is hard to beat, but when it's combined with two or three nights at Marataba Mountain Lodge, perched in a secluded location in the heart of the park, it makes for a trip that is truly unforgettable.

The lodge is fully solar-powered and the Scandi-style design allows the wild environment to really take center stage. This lodge also has just five suites, so you can connect with nature without any distractions.
